Kent & Curwen Spring/Summer 19
Such was the popularity of our inaugural Kent & Curwen offering during Autumn/Winter 18, we are excited to introduce the Spring/Summer 19 collection online at Mr & Mrs Stitch.
Kent & Curwen’s story began in 1926 as the company was initially established as a university outfitters which provided ties to high-level institutions and top-tier universities. The work of tie-maker Eric Kent and seamstress Dorothy Curwen did not go unnoticed as the company became a distinguished Saville Row brand.
In recent years, the brand experienced a quiet period of time in the UK, but retained a large presence around the rest of world, with the brand particularly prominent in Asia. However, David Beckham, in his quest to enter the world of fashion, spotted the potential of Kent & Curwen and made the decision to reinvigorate the brand
Beckham views Kent & Curwen as an opportunity to bring his own style to the brand, a style he personally describes as ‘very English.’ Along with creative director Daniel Kearns, Kent & Curwen has became a brand which is evidently inspired by Beckham’s trademark sophistication but has remained true to the original authenticity of the brand.
The Spring/Summer 19 collection references Kent & Curwen’s heritage past whilst maintaining a sporting aesthetic. Piece such as the embroidered rugby polo offer a classic interpretation of a wardrobe staple whilst traditional items such as the rose patch sweatshirt contain vintage undertones which conveys Beckham’s commitment to produce ‘everyday clothing’ but ‘with a twist that makes them not everyday.’
