Colmar’s Italian heritage has been reflected since it’s inception as a men’s hat producer in 1923. Founded by Mario and Irma Colombo, their decision to produce such clothing was a reflection of their beginnings in Monza which at the time was a prominent manufacturer of such garments. After a period of economic difficulty, Colmar began to use a special Italian cotton, Massaua 10, and it was the usage of this material which would lead to the company’s first encounter with athletes due to the cotton’s suitabilityfor skiing pioneers.

The first encounter would inspire a lasting relationship between the company and snow sports, a relationship that would inform the brand’s philosophy of creating clothing that was stylish yet functional. As the years progressed, Colmar would become the premier name in ski uniform manufacturing as each passing winter Olympics would see the company’s sales increase. This success would see the company diversify into other sporting markets such as golf until the development of Colmar originals in 2009 which was intended to reinterpret ‘the shape and feel of historic products with a current twist.’ This line of clothing is a not a mere replica of Colmar’s sporting history but rather is a convincing representation of Colmar’s distinctive outdoor DNA.
