A Fish named Fred provides quirky, flamboyant designs and for this autumn winter season the themes include birds and bicycles as well as a take on the themes of famous Dutch artists such as Van Gogh and Mondrian. These quirky designs contrast with brightly coloured buttons, portraying a light hearted and exuberant vibe. These eccentric pieces are sure to make you stand this winter.
The brainchild of flamboyant designer Rob Schalker, the Fish named Fred story began in 2011 with the ambition of becoming a quirky outfitters which could brighten the wardrobes of young and old shoppers alike. Schalker believed the company could exploit the dominance of conservative designers and brands through a unique offering which are ‘original with a humorous touch’ but ‘still commercial for a decent price.’
It is only apt that such a funky brand should carry a distinctive name and ‘a Fish named Fred’ certainly originated from a unique background. Schalker’s young daughter had a school assignment where she was set the unusual task of creating an animal that could talk and the product of her efforts was a Fish who she named Fred. Schalker saw this as a perfect fit for his fledgling company and as such a Fish named Fred was born!
