ROCK SALT ESPRESSO MARTINI by SHU

SHU RESTAURANT
"One of the best restaurants in the country in our opinion. 20 years young this year, SHU opened its doors in 2000. An elegant townhouse restaurant with much to offer. A cocktail bar in the basement serving exquisite drink fusions and hosting dj sets with a very lively atmosphere. A main brasserie provides views into the open kitchen and you can avail of private dining on the upper floor. The main attraction however is the seriously good food and drink. They don't have to bang their drum too loudly as their legacy of culinary consistency and customer service far precedes them."

Shu - Rock Salt Espresso Martini
Our fourth #BRIGHTERDAYS signature drink is provided by the exceptional Shu Restaurant, Belfast.

"Give Me A Drink To Wake Me Up, Then F*#k Me Up"
The Story
The story goes that the late British bartender legend, Dick Bradsell, created the Espresso Martini when a young model who he claims is now world famous, sidled up to the bar and asked for something to ‘wake her up and f**k me up’. The rest is history! Bradsell was credited with revolutionising the cocktail scene in London in the 1980’s, through his expertise at bars, The player, 6 Degrees and Match. He also visited Shu Restaurant in the early noughties!
Ingredients
This is Shu’s own twist on the classic Espresso Martini! The honour of this deliciously smooth cocktail invention goes to the British bartending Guru Dick Bradsell. Follow out step-by-step guide and try this deluxe recipe at home!
- 40ml Vodka (we recommend Grey Goose)
- Double shot of Espresso
- 20ml Tia Maria
- 5ml Sugar Syrup
- Pinch of Maldon Seasalt
The Plan
- Put two martini glasses in the fridge to chill.
- Prepare the espresso coffee beforehand and leave to chill. This will help minimise the dilution and make your drink colder and tastier!
- Fill a shaker with ice cubes and add all of the ingredients above.
- Shake all the ingredients vigorously and pour immediately into the chilled glasses.
- When straining, make sure to pour the drink brisk and swift from your shaker.
- Garnish with coffee beans.
**Note** There is less than half the amount of sugar in our martini than normal. We believe there is already plenty of sugar in the coffee liquor so it can even be made without the sugar! If you wish, adding the salt softens up the tannic acid or bitterness of the coffee, whilst accentuating the flavour, giving a more rounded less sickly drink.
Sit back and enjoy!
